Hello,
So, I just finished reading this supposed best thriller of the year, and let me tell you, I am completely let down.
This so-called spoiler-free review is my take on it – a poorly written attempt at a deep philosophical thriller with a supposed clever twist that falls flat on its face. The writing is downright terrible, with forced metaphors and failed attempts at philosophy. It somehow manages to feel rushed and slow at the same time. And to top it off, the characters are just poorly written or downright unbelievable.
The main character, a psychiatrist, should honestly have his license revoked. He seems so out of place in his profession that I half expected a plot twist where he turns out to be a patient in a mental institution. And don’t even get me started on Alicia, the other main character. She’s barely there, with no substance beyond painting, complaining about the heat, and, well, you know. The supporting characters are even more forgettable.
And the supposedly clever plot twist? Let’s just say it’s so bad, it’s almost comical.
Overall, I’d give it a solid 3 out of 10.
Cheers,
Disappointed Reader
